Lindos at a glance

Lindos is a village on Rhodes with an ancient acropolis on the hill above it. The acropolis and the beaches are separate stops. The main beach lies below the acropolis and the sanctuary of Athena Lindia, while St Paul's Bay is a different, smaller bay nearby. Plan time for each.

Lindos is not the same trip as the medieval city. If you want the walls, the palace and the Street of the Knights, read our Rhodes Old Town guide and treat Lindos as its own day out.

The acropolis of Lindos: tickets and opening hours

The acropolis is a state archaeological site. Admission is €20, or €10 reduced, as of 2026. Young EU citizens up to 25 and children from non-EU countries up to 18 enter free with proof of age or origin. Tickets are also sold online through the state portal tickets.hh.gr.

The climb takes about 10 minutes from the village on foot. The site has little shade, so wear a hat and bring water. The last entry is 20 minutes before closing, and the site can shut at short notice in bad weather. On 14 October 2026 it closed from 12:30 because of a storm warning.

The site is closed on 1 January, 25 March, 1 May, Orthodox Easter Sunday and 25 and 26 December.

Acropolis opening times on Rhodes

These are the hours for the acropolis of Lindos. The Acropolis of Rhodes in Rhodes Town is a separate monument zone, so check its opening times on the official heritage portal before you go.

St Paul's Bay (Agios Pavlos)

St Paul's Bay is a small bay near Lindos with two little beaches of sand and pebbles. It is a different place from the main beach below the village, so check which one you are heading for. Water shoes help on the pebbles.

The bay is easy to spot from the top of the acropolis, which makes a good order for your day: climb first while it is cooler, then swim. A car park called Lindos St. Paul's Parking serves the area. For other coves, see our guide to the 12 best beaches and coves on Rhodes.

The main beach is the one under the acropolis and the sanctuary of Athena Lindia.

Parking, donkeys and the walk up

Visitors report around €7 per stay at the car parks near the village, regardless of how long you stay. One is Lindos Central Parking on the main road. Follow the sign at the entrance, because rates can change.

Donkeys are offered in Lindos for the walk up. Animal welfare groups have documented overworked animals and mismatched sizes on Rhodes, and the climb is short. Walking is the simple choice.

  • Fire safety: no open fires or discarded cigarettes in dry vegetation. Call 199 or 112 if you see smoke or fire. In July 2023 wildfires led to precautionary evacuations in several places on Rhodes, Lindos among them.
  • Sleeping in Lindos: the acropolis is reached on foot from the old village, so a room close by saves time. See where to stay on Rhodes.

A half day in Lindos

A simple order that avoids the worst of the heat and the crowds.

Arrive early

The acropolis opens at 08:00 in summer. In July and August the average daytime high is about 30 °C, so the first hour is the best one. See the weather guide for each month.

Climb the acropolis

Allow about 10 minutes up from the village and time for the Stoa and the temple of Athena Lindia. Check the hours table above for your date.

Swim at St Paul's Bay

Walk or drive to the bay for a swim. Sand and pebbles, small beaches, no need to hurry.

Add another beach

On the same day you can stop at Tsambika beach or pick a cove from the beach list.
